Equal Pay

Women in the UK effectively stop earning from now 20th November until the end of the year, compared to men. Today’s EqualPayDay highlights this indefensible and enduring discrimination.

That 50% of the population are continuing to be paid less, for equal work, in 2020 this is unacceptable. Addressing this unconscionable discrepancy is not made easier by the fact the Government have chosen under Coronavirus measures to stop gender pay gap reporting, with “no expectation on employers to report their data.” https://lnkd.in/dwW89nu)

I am conscious of the tremendous importance and priority given to Covid-19 and Brexit coverage currently, yet find it staggering that only one national newspaper, The Telegraph, has devoted any column inches to this issue, albeit behind paywall. https://lnkd.in/dXSwyy3

The iNews article below, written by Sam Smethers, Chief Executive of the Fawcett Society would appear to be our only other national outlet covering this matter digitally. https://lnkd.in/dcswuRf

EDIT: The Guardian have also written: https://lnkd.in/dhSGSaE
